Graco GrindLazer Gas Powered Scarifiers
Contractor's choice for leveling trip hazards, removing coatings, and erasing traffic stripes and stencils.
The Graco Grindlazer concrete scarifier machines are a game-changer when you are looking for easy maneouverability. The Standard and HP Models have a swivel wheel in the front that makes it easy to feather polish without back-and-forth motions. They also have a fixed wheel mounted on the back for straight line removal, so you can change them out as needed, depending on the project you are working on.
The depth control lever on the Standard DC89 gives you precise control of getting the drum right to the pavement. Simply push the button on the lever to lower the drum into position as you're walking, and when you're done push the button again to pull it up.
On the advanced Pro and HP models, they have introduced a DialDown Depth feature that makes it easy to set the precise depth you need as you work. You can take the first pass and then press the button to lower one increment, taking the next layer off.
These machines remove lines from 5" - 8" wide (depending on the model) without damaging the pavement below.
The quick-disconnect handlebar feature allows you to stop the cutter fast, and increases safety on the job site.
The clearance under the belt drive makes it easy to work on concrete that has a lip - something that often comes up in trip hazard sidewalk work.
Asphalt Kingdom Coach Alex Coring loves the tachometer feature on his concrete scarifier. It makes it easy to:
- monitor your production rate
- change your oil every 20 hours
- track maintenance intervals
- monitor RPMs while you are working
In our tests of the Graco models, Alex found the performance to be similar to Husqvarna's models, but he thought the caster wheel brought a large advantage to the machine because you could feather it to get a lot more surface area than with a forward-only machine.
Efficiency on the job site is critical. The handholds were easy to use for loading and unloading, and the machines were easy to tie down in the trailer.
What Makes the Graco Grindlazers So Popular With Contractors?
These machines are designed for a lifetime of use. Their heavy-duty all steel frames make them sturdy enough to lift and lower from trucks and trailers without damaging the housing.
The Graco HP Gas Scarifier is loaded with extra features to reduce operator fatigue, too:
- Comfort-grip handles and air-filled pneumatic tires that reduce vibration
- Wide grip for greater comfort over long runs
- Caster wheels to make it easy to turn
- Easy to read tach/hour meter gauge
- You can even add a Line Driver to double your output!
You can use any of these drum-style cutters with all three models:
- Wire Brush
- Steel Star
- Steel Beam
- Carbide Flail
- Carbide Flat
- Carbide-Tipped Miller
- Full-Carbide Miller
- QuikCut PCD
- The Pro and HP Model can also accept Carbide Pick and Diamond Blades.
Which Scarifier Model Should You Choose?
Choose the GrindLazer Standard DC89 G Gas-Powered Scarifier - Model 25M843 - for a reliable workhorse for small jobs. Use it for basic surface prep, repairs, and line removal. It features a GX270, 9HP Honda Engine with cyclone filter. It has dual depth control with large lever and small knob controls.
Choose the GrindLazer Pro DC89 G Gas-Powered Scarifier - Model 25N667 - if you are looking for a high-output drum for all types of surface prep. It has a cyclone air filter, a 7-inch cutter drum diameter, GX270, 9HP Honda Engine with pull start. It will cut widths up to 8 inches. This model introduces the DialDown Depth Control System.
Choose the GrindLazer HP DC89 G Gas-Powered Scarifier- Model 25M992 if you'd like to attach a LineDriver and double your productivity. This is the best model if levelling is your primary function. It has a cyclone air filter, a 7-inch cutter drum diameter, GX270, 9HP Honda Engine with ProStart for cold-weather starting, and a 3-cog tri-belt design. It also features the DialDown Depth Control System.
Which Drum Cutter Should You Choose?
The Steel Star improves traction and prepares surfaces for coatings through grooving, efficiently remove coatings like paint and thermoplastic, level out high spots to eliminate trip hazards, and is ideal for thermoplastic and tape inlay.
With self-sharpening polycrystalline diamond (PCD) technology, the PCD Drum gently shave surfaces, lasting up to 30 times longer than traditional carbide flails and cutting up to four times faster than diamond blades. This means you can get the job done quicker and boost your productivity.
- PCD Flat: Creates a flat profile, perfect for shaving and removing coatings.
- PCD Nano-Round: Leaves fine ridges that enhance coating adhesion, making it ideal for paint, thermoplastic, and epoxy.
- PCD Round: Produces deeper grooves, perfect for aggressive removal and thicker coatings.
