Oil based sealer - also known as petroleum based sealer, liquid asphalt or Black Mac, is a great sealer for harsh northern climates like Canada. Use it for parking lots, driveways, cart paths, walkways and bicycle paths.
- Oil-based sealer
- With up to 25,000 square feet sealcoat coverage.
- Compatible with Pro 100 C and Pro 200 C Liquid Asphalt Spray System.
An oil-based sealer is designed to penetrate the asphalt surface slightly to re-moisturize or recondition the surface, allowing it to regain flexibility so that when the ground moves the asphalt can flex the way it did when it was first laid.
This is a pallet of four 200-litre drums (55 gallon). Its coverage rate is approximately 3 square metres per litre or 125 square feet per US gallon.
It's applied via a pressurized spray system like the Pro 100 and Pro 200. It cannot be sprayed with a centrifugal system or a dual-diaphragm system. It has to be sprayed with a gear pump system, or else the pumps will become clogged and will not operate.
Oil-based sealer is resistant to oil, gasoline, and salt. It's highly protective from weather - oxidization from the sun, erosion from water / ice; and general wear and tear. It bears the brunt of traffic so that your asphalt doesn't have to.
It takes about 24 hours for oil-based sealer to dry. We don't recommend you allow any vehicle or foot traffic over that 24 hours.
The sealer will stay shiny for about a week before it settles to a matte black.
Overspray?
In order to remove oil-based sealer in case of any overspray, use a product like Bug Tar, Goof Off, or Mineral Spirits. Oil-based products cannot be removed with water.
Please note:If you are picking this sealer up, you will need to have your Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate by law. This certificate can be obtained online or by purchasing the course book and test at our location.
